Sorry, it's been a while (compared to those every day posts!), but I just needed a break. Or something. I'm going through weird stuff.
Anyway. Yesterday I saw Dr. Closmann and Dr. Hsu and they weren't happy with swelling still present. Decided I'd come back (today) to go in (through mouth first then neck if needed), to drain the liquid that it appeared to be through the CT scan from a few weeks ago. Dr. Closmann said he'd let me be comfortable and put me under general anesthesia, and while we were at it, consider taking off my arch bars (the braces) since they're actually WIRES AROUND MY TEETH UNDER MY GUMS! and it's less painful if I'm already out instead of using local anesthesia. I was excited, but didn't want to get my hopes up.
Needless to say, I was ok with going under the knife again (it wasn't too major, done in the clinic not in the OR). I really have to learn to surrender completely to God's will and not keep taking it back... as I think I've been doing while trying to think about the second surgery.
They went in today, and when I woke up (groggy because they gave me something that causes memory loss, I only got more info after I called Suzie the head nurse back to double check on cleaning procedures). There was no puss/liquid to be drained. But Dr. Closmann is fairly confident that by cutting into it and airing it out will allow the swelling to go down (also, back on some antibiotics). Needless to say, seemingly since it wasn't what they were expecting, my 72hr quarters turned into 14 days of con leave. *sigh* If all goes well, I'll be back at work 15 Dec.
So backtracking a little. Last Monday I went in and since Dr. Closmann felt comfortable leaving me for the holidays, he went home to Texas. So I saw someone else on the 23rd, Dr... something like Pretzel. Anyway. Rule was if I didn't get worse, to wait until Dr. Closmann could see me yesterday (30 Nov). That's when we / they decided to go in. That's also when Dr. Closmann told me that the infection I had... was something he hadn't seen in an oral surgery patient. Something I had to have contracted from the hospital. He said normally people get staph or strep infections, I got something with two names and like 5 syllables in each name. I was excited, man I really am unique! Haha. In so many ways right...?
On the plus side tho, before this morning I went water jogging twice! Something the doc said I was good to go as long as I didn't clench my jaw, or overdo it. First time I did about 300m, second time I did about 500m--to include some sprints. I'm excited. Marcus bought me these VIBRAM toe shoes, that have grippies, PERFECT for water jogging in shallow water....deep too. I'm excited to use them. I like them.
Ok, I need to brush my teeth and sleep. Night night.
Oh-I was getting pretty bitter (towards some people in my life) the past weekend, and God provided this for me. Very amazing to meditate on...
